I don’t think we need any additional reminders about how difficult times are right now, not just in our cities or country, but collectively around the world. With the ongoing spread of COVID-19 and more people being put into lock down with each passing down (personally, we’re on the edges of our seat for it to happen any minute in NYC) I started thinking about what I could possibly do to help alleviate some of this worldwide anxiety. I don’t want to tell people to relax, it’s all going to be okay, because that simply does not help. But what I realized I could do was offer a tool for those that are looking for a way to distract themselves from the non-stop media blasts and terrifying news feed streams.
As you may already know (but I will reiterate again) ÆSTHESIA is a body of work that uses technology and art to bring nature into spaces like health centers and public locations where nature is not easily or readily accessible. No one ever thought they were going to be locked in their homes for weeks on end, and just as spring is starting to bloom, so I have decided to make 1 minute clips from all of the “Medicinal Flower” films available for free to stream on the new ÆSTHESIA website. Studies have proven that even spending 60 seconds focusing on an image of nature can help alleviate muscle tension and lower blood pressure (although it is recommended a full 3-5 minutes for optimal benefits).
