FIU Style Sightings

I don't know about all of you but this week sure has been one long week. First exams of the semester, research due for multiple classes and lots of photo editing. With that said this week has also been an interesting mixture of cultural pride and comfort driven dressing. This felt quite appropriate for my own life at this moment with fashion month currently in progress, the focus of my school research and a lack of brain energy to put into any interesting ensemble.

The girl below was clearly captured unknowingly. I loved her serene presence and how her hijab flowed so well with her surroundings. There are many girls on campus that wear their hijabs for cultural pride and you may have noticed that earlier this week I featured an outfit with a scarf worn like a hijab as well. I am not wearing it for religious reasons like these girls and I have been very nervous to dawn one myself for fear of anyone thinking I am being disrespectful in any way. I have discussed this issue with many people and want to make sure it is known that I am seen wearing it as a tribute to the beauty that these scarfs and styles hold. Their history is rich and incredibly interesting and I truly do respect it.

Professor Phyllis Baker, Anthropology
Professor Phyllis Baker is a woman that greatly understands this subject as I got to learn last week when I had the opportunity to sit down and have an in-depth interview with her about what style is to her, but that will have to wait for another time. For now though we can still ooohh and aaaahhh at her wildly fantastical outfits. She gets most of her pieces from her worldly travels and exudes cultural influence and respect and celebration for it.

Carlos Salacar, Advertising

Like Professor Baker Carlos is clearly someone that know's his style. These two particular days he was seen embracing the polka dot trend but used accessories and strong colors to make each look different and interesting.
Tate Caroline
Nina Manso, Computer Science

Nina and Tate were spotted a week apart but both offer great solutions to early morning classes and lazy days. To me they each successfully maintained that comfortable morning feeling you have when you first wake up and are so cozy you don't want to get out of bed. Nina stole her boyfriends shirt and Tate paired lounge-like cotton's on top of each other to stay comfortable but chic. I wrote more about Nina's look here on CollegeFashionista
Janely Rodriguez, Undecided

Lastly we have Janely. I met her a few week's ago and wrote about her grunge look on CollegeFashionista here  but on this particular day I was really drawn to her makeup. She is clearly already a beautiful girl but her bold yet simple makeup choices are what really make her stand out. A strong brown and wine stained lip are all any girl needs to get the boy's head's turning and other girls copying.
